Terry Willie-Surratt is President/CEO of One Step at a Time Consulting Services. A graduate of the Cincinnati College of Law, Ms. Willie-Surratt also has a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of South Carolina ,a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a Masters of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources from Strayer University.  Ms. Willie-Surratt brings a commanding blend of legal, social and organizational development expertise. As a consultant, she has over 10 years of experience in developing community relations and partnerships, board development, personnel management, grant writing, project and grant management, fundraising and organizational infrastructure design. 
She has proven leadership and senior management experience in both business and/or nonprofit management as Executive Director for Richmond Court Appointed Special Advocates and The Values Institute of America.  Ms. Willie-Surratt not only brings her knowledge and expertise in understanding of the dynamics of change in organizational development, but is an experienced trainer in leadership and team building.
Ms. Willie-Surratt has extensive experience in the social services arena, previously with the County of Henrico where she served as the Community Resource Director with the Department of Social Services. She has also served as the Director of Social Services of the Richmond Salvation Army and as an Associate Director for an organization that advocates on behalf of domestic violence and sexual assault victims.
She is recognized as a community leader through acceptance in Leadership Metro Richmond, she received the Stettinius Fund for Nonprofit Leadership Award and a recipient of A Woman of Style Award.  She is an alumnus of the Center for Creative Leadership where she successfully completed the Leadership Development curriculum.  She serves on several community boards including the Virginia Association of Fundraising Executives (VAFRE) and The Capital Region Workforce Investment Board Youth Council.
Ms. Willie-Surratt is a native North Carolinian and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia with her husband Allen.
Dr. Sylvia Willie Burgess is a Senior Consultant at One Step A Time Consulting where her focus is on leadership training, community engagement training, curriculum development, cultural diversity and cultural competency training, strategic planning, organizational capacity building and event facilitation.  She graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with a Bachelor’s of Art in Speech and Language Pathology in 1982 and completed a Master’s degree in Public Administration in 1995 from University of North Carolina Greensboro.  Dr. Burgess received her Six Sigma Green Belt certification from Villanova University in 2003.  She earned a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from North Carolina A&T State University and has served as an adjunct professor in this program.  Dr. Burgess is an active member in the community and church serving in several volunteer roles.  She serves on a task force promoting STEM Education,  Director of  Leadership Training, as a member of the Senior Leadership Team at Word of Reconciliation Ministries, and the Research and Development Team for Community and Civic Engagement. Dr. Burgess is the co-editor and an author of "Lead the Way: Principles and Practices in Community and Civic Engagement."
Dr. Burgess is actively involved in providing team training for community organizations whose needs are focused on team building, self-improvement and conflict resolution.  She is a provider of team training and development for team building through classroom and simulation activities, strategy, and self-improvement subject matters.  In addition,she taught in the doctoral program at NC A&T, taught courses at the Shaw University Cape Center in Public Administration, worked with Wake Forest School of Management to provide leadership training, and was the keynote speaker for graduation for Focus Leadership of Thomasville, N.C. for two consecutive years.   Dr. Burgess’ greatest passion is to help women all over the world to find that place of peace and success for their lives and live life to its fullest.  She is accomplishing this goal through her work at Word of Reconciliation Ministries and with the Sisters of Joy Ministry Conference.
Dr. Burgess is a native North Carolinian and lives in Greensboro with her daughter, Avigayil.
