The attacks we are experiencing on DEI are not just ideological - but have some real-world consequences for individuals, families, and communities. We know that diversity, equity, and inclusion are more than buzzwords. They are each an underlying strength that enriches our culture, expands our understanding, and bolsters innovation and creativity. When did the misunderstanding occur?
The ongoing miseducation is often framed in a divisive and unnecessary manner which overlooks the truth. Diversity, equity, and inclusion do not diminsh the rights or opportunities of people, but it is about expanding them for everyone. We should not attempt to reverse the progress we have made in building bridges of understanding and respect for all individuals.
Pushing against this work reflects an unwillingness to acknowledge and deal with the deep-rooted inequities that persist in our society. This thinking is based on those who are not willing to get comfortable with their uncomfortableness about the truths of power and bias that affect all of us, eithre consciously or unconsciously. Denying the right for this work to continue is perpetuating existing inequities.
At One Step at a TIme Consulting, we stand unwavering in our commitment to creat an environment that allows for celebrating and upholding the values of equity, diverstity, and inclusion (EDI). Currently, we have witnessed increasing efforts to challenge, undercut, and undo any advancement made toward building more inclusive and equitable communities where anyone can belong and participate.
One Step at a Time is committed to resisting the effort to stop focusing on this important work and is dedicated to helping us understand what equity, diversity, and inclusion are and to find common ground where courageous conversations can continue. We want to educate, advocate, and continue to work towards positive change in a world that needs it more today than ever before.
We acknowledge that as a society we are stronger when we appreciate the different backgrounds, perspectives, and lived experiences that each of us brings to the table. We believe that respecting our differences drives growth and success for organizations and communities.
Conitnuing this work is not easy, and it requires all of us - employees, employers, leaders, and communities to stand resolute in our efforts to create a society where we all can thrive. We urge you to continue to educate and train the workforce to engage and advocate for policies that promote fairness, respect, and dignity within your walls and in the broader communities.
